My God by Grace Luz

When I say my God,

I do not mean a figure seated on a throne,

I mean the energy that breathes galaxies,

The pulse that lives in oceans,

In wind,

In my chest.

My God has no borders,

No flags,

No fences,

No checkpoints.

My God doesn’t ask for passports,

Doesn’t care where I was born,

Or what language I speak,

Or how I pray.

This presence,

The source I feel in the stillness,

Moves like water,

Burns like fire,

Grounds like earth,

And dances like wind.

It cannot be confined.

No border patrol can detain the sacred.

No wall can stop light from rising.

The energy I call God moves through all things,

Between all people,

Beyond every line ever drawn by fear.

I do not need to ask permission to belong.

I was born belonging.

I carry the Huy in my breath,

In my heartbeat,

In the soles of my feet.

And so do you.

I look at another human being,

And I do not see Other.

I see the same spark,

The same force flowing through them that flows through me.

This knowing,

It changes everything.

It tells me that I can’t just stand by while systems divide and silence.

It tells me that love is not neutral,

It is active,

It is bold,

It crosses lines.

I am done with borders in my heart.

I am done with walls in my mind.

I will live as if the whole earth is sacred ground,

Because it is.

As if every human being is sacred,

Because they are.

My God is freedom.

My God is connection.

My God is boundaryless,

Limitless,

Wild and alive.

And so am I.

And so are you.
